The Islamia University of Bahawalpur has a rich history rooted in academic excellence. Formerly known as Jamia Abbasia, it was established in 1925 and was transformed into a general University in 1975. The University's origins can be traced back to the prominent educational practices of scholars from around the world who gathered at Uch Sharif, an ancient town near Bahawalpur.

Following in the footsteps of distinguished academic institutions like Jamia Al-Azhar in Egypt, Jamia Abbasia focused on teachings related to Islam, including Quranic interpretation, Hadith studies, Fiqah, and History, alongside contemporary subjects. Over the years, the University expanded its academic offerings, evolving from ten departments to 45, encompassing a wide array of disciplines.

The relocation to a new campus on Hasilpur Road marked a pivotal moment for The Islamia University of Bahawalpur. What was once a barren land has been meticulously transformed into a modern educational hub named Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus. Here, students benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, lush greenery, and a conducive learning environment.
